John Curtis Christian, ranked No. 3 in the DigitalSports National Football Rankings took its veer option scheme to Joe Yenni Stadium in Metairie, LA to take on Bergen Catholic on Friday September 6th. John Curtis notched a 24-13 victory over the Oradell school.
The Curtis Offense leaped to a 7-0 lead on the second play of the game, as George Moreira took a dive 78 yards to the end zone. Bergen Catholic was able to pull the score back to an even 7-7 on the next drive, as Russo’s 1-yard plunge capped an 11-play drive.
However, Curtis tighten up on defense and would score 17 unanswered points to take a 24-7 lead into halftime on a 9-yard run by Blain Hebert, a 1-yard run by George Moreira and a 36-yard field goal by Austen Linden with seconds left before the break.
Although Bergen was able to keep Curtis scoreless in the second half, they were unable to recover offensively. Ultimately Curtis took the 24-13 victory from Bergen Catholic.
John Curtis Christian looks to improve their 2-0 record when they host St. Thomas Aquinas (FL) this Friday, September 13th, @ 8PM.
